On Thursday 9th February, Lantel set off from London heading for the Euro Tunnel in Folkestone, embarking on a journey through France and Switzerland heading for Zurich. A client of ours have numerous European offices, so travelling throughout Europe is nothing new to Lantel, in fact has become a valued and enjoyable part of our work and we are always happy to venture outside the United Kingdom to provide our professional services, and even more so it is great that our clients ask us to do so.
As well as Lantel, there were IT Technicians from the head office in London that were due out in Zurich to work along with us. Their task was to remove an old existing switch and replace with a new one and provide brand new PC, monitors, telephones and printers for the Swiss clients. The task in hand for Lantel was to help assist with the IT Technicians as well as install brand new Cat6 cabling around the office, comprising of 26 new data outlet ports. On top of the cabling, we were also asked to install a brand new trunking system, linking the existing trunking system to a brand new Comms cabinet position, due to the fact that the existing Comms cabinet was being decommissioned and removed from the office.
We arrived at the client’s office in Zurich city centre in the early evening around 18:30pm
(local time), we unloaded all the equipment for the job, most importantly including the Switch that the client needed to power up and programme, ready for the change over and the installation of the new one. Once we had off loaded all our equipment, we helped assist the IT technicians in running a circuit test for the new switch as this was required to be carried out on the Thursday evening.
After the office had been vacated on the Friday evening we began our tasks in hand. A brand new 2x2 trunking system was installed around the perimeter of the office, the existing trunking system was on the opposite side of the office where the new Comms cabinet was being positioned, so a new trunking system needed to be installed linking the two together.
We ran in 26 Cat6 cables from the new Comms cabinet position to various locations throughout the office. Each data outlet for desk position comprised of 2x Cat6 ports. The IT technicians continued with their work in the process, working simultaneously together helping one another out every so often. The job went really well and had a great outcome. We arrived on site on Monday morning, primarily to load the Van with the equipment that we was asked to take back to London, and to sweep across the office one last time before the clientele arrived for work. The Swiss clients were very happy with the changes and the works that had taken place across the weekend and they couldn’t have shown their gratitude any more then they did.
Once all the necessary equipment had been loaded into the Van and we checked that everyone was happy with everything and there were no problems, we said our goodbyes ( In both English and German) and we got on the road heading back for London.
Lantel thoroughly enjoys working abroad, it is great the our client’s believe in us, our services and that they are happy for us to journey across the English Channel and work throughout their European offices.
